Kirtan is an ancient form of mantra meditation and a main component of bhakti-yoga (the yoga of devotion), which has the power to open and purify the heart. The practice of kirtan is done as a group, singing sacred sanskrit syllables in a call and response fashion. Accompanied by instruments and percussion, this collective chanting of sacred sounds allows one’s body to relax, mind to become peaceful, & soul to sweetly reconnect to spirit. In its heartfelt expression kirtan can induce profound states of meditation, bliss, and esctasy, and sometimes - even dance.
