Vinyasa means breath -synchronized movement, and Vinyasa Flow (yoga) is a series of linked asanas (poses)that will move you through the power of inhaling and exhaling.
A vigorous class OR a slower, meditative Vinyasa flow. Bhakti Flow classes include elements of non-dogmatic devotion and intention. The room is lightly heated (78-80 degrees) and classes are set to rad music. This class also starts and ends with Kirtan (call and response chanting). You connect with this heart-centered practice through movement, breath, intention......refuge and connection unlike any other. Come explore Bhakti Flow and see what makes us different. Ashtanga is an ancient system of yoga that was taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. It integrates breath, movement, and gazing points as a method of turning inward and discovering our true nature. This class explores the beginning of the Primary Series, known in sanskrit as Yoga Chikitsa, or yoga therapy. This series of postures is meant to build strength both in the core and the limbs, improve balance and spine mobility, as well as open the hips and lengthen the hamstrings. It is challenging, but appropriate for all levels. This isn't a traditional led class, though there are similar elements.
Feeling intimidated about taking a class? Want to learn a little more about yoga? Been taking classes, but have questions about poses or terms? We offer this $10 dollar hour-long workshop/class which will have a brief discussion on philosophy, pranayama (breath), bandhas (locks), and take you step by step through common asanas (poses) and safety tips. Everyone is welcome, it will be a very simple flow and allow time for questions and answers. First timers as well as those with established practices who want to learn a little more in an intimate setting are welcome. You can take this workshop as many times as you like. Pre-registration is required.
This class will leave you sweaty, focused, and with your heart singing. Vigorous Vinyasa Flow (6 months Vinyasa experience recommended). This class opens and closes with Kirtan (call and response chanting), Pranayama (breathing exercises), and a challenging Vinyasa Flow in a lightly heated room (80 degrees) is sandwiched between and set to some of your favorite music. Yoga Punx is an alternative to conventional yoga experience. Some people feel uncomfortable about attending an average yoga class; Yoga Punx is here to meet you where you are with a killer sound track! This class does hold true to the traditional aspects of yoga philosophy, the 8 limbs of yoga, and the true spirit of DIY punk philosophy. We believe in freedom for all Beings. This class is designed to restore and renew you back to a sense of your original health. This is a space to "undo" all the "doing" we put our bodies and minds through in modern ways of living. This class is heavily prop-focused. Props allow us to fully release and feel completely supported in postures so that we are not holding or gripping anywhere in our body or mind. Each pose is held for a number of minutes. You will notice your body settling, your mind quieting and your breath softening. There is ample use of silence in class so that you may have time and space to observe your thoughts and bear witness to your own experience.

Most classes will have a 20 minute or so guided meditation, a brief dharma talk and open discussion. Occasionally we will have multi-week class series, but generally the classes will evolve into what they need to be, in response to whatever arises in the studio or catches Gary's interest.
This Bhakti Flow class sets the stage for deep internal exploration and connection. Refuge. We include the elements of the other Bhakti Flow classes (intention, chanting, light heat, heart-centered practice, etc) and also include longer meditation , pranayama (breath work) and a slow flow /restorative combo. This is appropriate for beginners and those with experience who want to begin again. The playlist includes darkwave, kirtan and meditative metal (doom, dark ambient, drone etc.)--music vibrations perfect for a deep and meditative experience with breath and connection. There are foundations for this practice: first being the breath, no matter the shape of the body, the breath remains constant and controlled. The second being bandha: energetic and physical locks with in the body that bring a more efficient and intelligent way to move the body. The third being drishti: a controlled and fixed point for the gaze. With these 3 foundational concepts practiced regularly the physical aspect of the practice transforms, the mental state slows and quiets, finally the emotional state finds ease and begins to settle.
All things take time and within this practice of yoga the more you show up, the more you will discover.....All is coming.
